All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::NOT LISTED Raines Jr., Clarence Tillman Clarence Tillman Raines Jr., Called C.T. and later Chuck was born April 4, 1925 and died November 22, 2006 in Alameda, CA. The oldest child of Clarence and Maggie Raines was born in their homestead farm house outside Hooker, OK. C.T. is survived by his sons, Mark Raines of Alameda, CA, and Daniel Raines and his wife Sophie of San Diego, CA; his two sisters, Joyce Ornelas of Austin, TX, and Joan Williams of Springfield, MO; his three beloved grandchildren, Carrie Raines, Rose Raines, and Michael Raines of Charlotte, NC; his six nieces and nephews; and special friends and caregivers, Harold Stram, Ken Browers, and Will Burton. In 1941 the family moved into the town of Hooker, where C.T. graduated from Hooker High School in 1943. After graduation C.T. entered the United States Navy, serving during WWII based out of Treasure Island in San Francisco. It was during this time that he decided the San Francisco Bay Area would one day be his home. C.T. then later served with the Navy V-12 Unit at The Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1946 C.T. attended The Colorado College from 1946 to 1950 with assistance from the G.I. Bill. It was at The Colorado College that he met his future wife, Carol Harris. He served as president of his local chapter of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, and he graduated with honors in the spring of 1950 with a bachelor of arts in biological sciences. In October of 1950 C.T. and Carol were married and moved to San Francisco to start their lives together. They lived in San Francisco for eight years; Pacifica, CA, for five years; and Campbell, CA, for nearly 20 years. Carol passed away in the spring of 1982. C.T. made his professional career as a pharmaceutical representative for National Drug, Merrill Drug, and eventually Dow Chemical, retiring in 1987. After retirement Chuck kept himself active doing volunteer work with the AIDS Foundation as well as the Sierra Club. He was an avid reader, puzzle solver, and Scrabble player, and he enjoyed traveling abroad. He was honored on his 80th birthday with a large gathering of his family and friends in San Francisco. He was a kind and caring man and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
