Susan was born in Guymon, Okla., August 29, 1950. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1968 and subsequently received her BA from the University of Denver, and her MBA from Southern Oregon University. At the time of her death, she was in private practice as a CPA in Talent, Ore. Susan was a devoted sports fan, thoroughly versed in the history and legend of all the major athletic events and their venues. She was an avid reader with cookbooks and well-written mysteries always close at hand. She had a great love for animals; she was particularly fond of horses and dogs, and there was almost always a dog by her side. Cooking was an outlet for her creative talents and, even when illness prevented her from enjoying the results of her culinary efforts, she delighted in preparing savory dishes for friends and family. She had an inquiring mind, great intelligence, and incredible memory and Jeopardy was probably her favorite TV show. Susan is survived by her parents, Lois and Dick Pischel, of Ashland, and William and Betty Riffe, of Loreto, Mexico; as well as sisters, Catherine Riffe, of Portland, Linda Carpenter, of Elmhurst, Ill., and Lisa Brewin, of Chanhassen, Minn. She is also survived by six nephews; one niece; and her beloved dog, Maggie. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on November 3, at the Presbyterian Church Chapel in Ashland, with Eleanor Robison leading the service. The family asks that any memorial contributions be made to the Friends of the Animal Shelter (FOTAS), P.O. Box 3412, Ashland, OR 97520.
