All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Amarillo Globe News 9 Aug 1997 Velma Pauline Southern TYRONE, Okla. - Velma Pauline Southern, 82, of Colorado Springs, Colo., a former Tyrone resident, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Tyrone Cemetery with Kyle Gregory Speed, grandson, officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home Inc., 4100 S. Georgia St., in Amarillo. Mrs. Southern was born in Haviland, Kan. Her family moved to Tyrone in 1921. She graduated from Tyrone High School in 1932 and attended Northwestern College at Alva from 1932 to 1933. She married O.B. Southern in 1934. She moved to Pomona, Calif., in 1935 and lived there until 1944, when she moved to Hereford, Texas. After the death of her husband in 1979, she moved back to Tyrone. Mrs. Southern was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include a daughter, Joan Speed; two sons, Gary Phillip Southern and Merle Warren Southern Sr.; seven grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
