Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Vega United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Phillips, pastor, the Rev. James Peach, pastor of First Baptist Church, and Brad Thompson, youth minister of University Church of Christ in Canyon, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Vega Funeral Home. Mr. Thompson was born in Bonita. He moved to Vega in 1945. He served as sheriff of Oldham County and the chief of police for the city of Vega. He was a founding member of the United Peace Officers Association, which has had continual involvement with Cal Farley's Boys Ranch since 1954. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in Europe, Korea and the Philippines. Mr. Thompson was a member of Vega United Methodist Church and the Vega Kiwanis Club. He was president of the Vega Senior Citizens. He married Marcetas Loi "Mable" Tracy in 1941 at Guymon, Okla. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Marvin Thompson of Clarendon and Jerry Thompson of Carrollton; a sister, Elinor Ashcraft of Vernon; a brother, D.L. Thompson of Nocona; six grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. The family requests memorials be to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, Texas 79176-0001; or Memorial Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 496, Vega, Texas 79092.
