Velma Lenora Thornton

GUYMON, Okla. - Velma Lenora Thornton, 88, died Wednesday, May 28, 1997.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Henson-Novak Funeral Directors 
Chapel with the Rev. Frank Springer, interim minister at First Christian 
Church, officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery.

Mrs. Thornton was born in Humboldt, Kan. She married John Harrison 
Thornton in 1930 at Ottawa, Kan. They moved to the Cities Service Plant in 
Straight, Okla., in 1949. They moved to Guymon in 1970 and made their home 
there. Her husband died in 1978.

Mrs. Thornton was a member of Straight Christian Church, Disciples of 
Christ.

Survivors include a daughter, Louise Turkle of Redondo Beach, Calif.; a 
brother, Virgil Rally Dunaway of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren; 
and four greatgrandchildren.

A Velma Thornton Memorial has been established for Straight Christian 
Church. Memorials will be accepted at HensonNovak Funeral Home, Box 1306, 
Guymon, Okla. 73942.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 8 p.m. today.
