The land was given by a pioneer, Charlie ELLIS, after the death of his sister on April 1, 1902. She was the first person buried there. In the early days, funerals were often held in Centerview School across the road west of the cemetery. Sometimes the only service was held at the graveside. Mrs. Will YOUNG (nee Vivian ADAMS) says the second burial was that of Tom MCCHRISTIAN, a native of Denmark, who homesteaded three miles east and 1-1/2 miles north of Tipton. We could not locate a tombstone for Mr. McChristian, but Mrs. Young wrote, "We have all seen his stone many times, but it was so far out to the south side, it might have been knocked over by cattle and plowed under." The earliest birthday found in this cemetery is that of Mary A. CALLAHAM, March 10, 1830. The most recent burial was that of Leonard L. LINDSEY, who died January 17, 1971. There are more early dates on stones in this cemetery than any we've documented. Miss T. O. ELLIS died April 1, 1902; K. A. MCDONALD on June 30, 1902; Eva R. WOODYARD on October 21, 1902; Dora E. SEYMOUR on July 15, 1903; Franklin WRIGHT on December 8, 1903. Parts of this cemetery have been maintained, namely the plots of the ADAMS, YOUNG, SAWYER, MANIS, SHAW, KIRK, LINDSEY, SMITH, and TODD families. The rest of the cemetery is terribly overgrown, making the recording of tombstone information difficult, to say the least. It's quite possible we may have missed some stones because of the vast overgrowth. ADAMS, Addie A., wife of R.
