Hoover, Manitou.Mr. Goodman as a young man, with his brother Oather, left their home in Ray county, Mo., Feb 5 1900 for Oklahoma. They arrived at Hobart March 5. As Harrison was too young to own land they worked there until 1901 and then went to Mountain Park and worked on the railroad until he was 21 years old, April 4, 1902, when he filed on the place four and a half miles east and two miles north of Tipton or one-half east of Laing school, and moved on it April 17. He batched and lived in a half dugout for five years before his marriage in 1907. The Goodmans reared their children on this farm which was their home for 29 years. They, as well as other early day settlers, went through many hardships, mingled with joy and sorrow. Their oldest son, Harley, drowned at the age of 13 and a daughter, Mrs Clara Haynie passed away later. The farm known throughout southwestern Oklahoma as the peach orchard farm shipped and sold locally hundreds of bushels of Early Wheeler peaches. Mrs Goodman laughingly told how she canned over 100 quarts of peaches for the family table each year. Mr. Goodman sold this farm and moved to the place he bought and now lives on.
