Wallis FREDERICK -- Funeral for Bonnie D. Wallis, 94, Frederick, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Frederick First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charlie Graves and the Rev. Weegie Williams officiating. Mrs. Wallis died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, in Frederick. Burial will be at Frederick Memorial Cemetery under direction of Jackson Funeral Home. She was born March 17, 1908, in Howland, Texas, to James Lewis and Eula Mable Patterson Hatcher. She graduated from high school in Paris, Texas. She attended East Texas University in Commerce, Texas, and received her bachelor's degree in English and Latin, with a minor in history. She later attended Oklahoma State University, Southwestern Oklahoma State University and the University of Wyoming, and became qualified in 13 fields of teaching. She married R.E. Wallis on March 5, 1930, in Frederick. He died Dec. 20, 1975. She began her teaching career in Brockston, Texas. She moved to Tillman County and taught at Victory No. 11, east of Davidson, for eight years. She then taught at Loveland High School for eight years. In 1951, she began teaching senior English at Frederick High School, and taught there until her retirement in 1971. She was named Tillman County Teacher of the Year in 1968. She was included in the 1974 second edition of the World's Who's Who of Women. During her teaching career, she was a member of the Oklahoma and National Education Associations and the Tillman County Classroom Teacher's Association. She also held offices in Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority and Wesleyan Service Guild. She was listed in "Personalities of the South" and "Dictionary of International Biography." She was a member of Frederick First United Methodist Church, where she served as pianist, chairman of the UMW, an officer of her Sunday School Class and class pianist. She was also involved in the United Fund Drives, Cleanup Campaigns and other civic activities. She wrote an article, "I Am The Flag," which was published in the 1971-72 Reader's Digest Special Edition. Survivors include a son, Jim Pat Wallis, Frederick; four nephews and their wives: Charles R. and Dorothy Hatcher, Santa Fe, N.M.; Wesley and Oleta Wallis, Carnegie; Victor and Jaci Wallis, Wichita, Kan.; and L.R. "Dutch" and Gene Wallis, Oklahoma City; five nieces and their husbands: Mitzi Hatcher Strain and Weldon Strain, Cross Plains, Texas; Lou Beth Hatcher Hendrix and Grady Hendrix, Arlington, Texas; Opal Hudson Williams and Weegie Williams, Alva; and Wynnell and Lew Jackson, Frederick. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Dixon Lewis Hatcher.
