Copying of the files within by non-commercial individuals and libraries is encouraged. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Frederick Daily Leader August 8, 1979 Services Thursday for Mrs. Delaney Mrs. Vernie Delaney 87, one time Owner-Operator of the American Hotel which was destroyed by the 1973 Tornado here, died at 11:15 A.M. Tuesday at Pioneer Manor Nursing home after a prolonged illness. Services will be held at 10 A.M. Tuesday at Gish Memorial Chapel with Rev. Charles Wyatt, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial under direction of Gish Funeral home will be in Frederick Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Delaney came to Tillman County in 1902, later lived in California and returned to Frederick in 1950. She was born Dec. 12, 1891 at Tussy, I.T. the daughter of William R. and Mary Jeanette (Hobbs) Gibbs, and was married to Robert Aldridge in 1907. He preceded her in death March 15, 1962. She was a former order of Easter Star, the Rebekah Lodge, and the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Delaney operated a laundry and later owned and operated the American Hotel, which was destroyed in the 1973 Tornado. Survivors include one son, Don Aldridge of Santa Ana, Calif., seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
