Hudson, Barbara Jo
Barbara Jo Hudson was born to R.B. and Viola Pomeroy on March 13, 1931 in Tipton, Oklahoma. Barbara came to Kern County with her family in 1942 as part of the Dust Bowl Migration. The Pomeroy family finally settled in Oildale where Barbara attended Standard Elementary and Kern Union High School and where she was proud to be an 08'r. In her younger days, she was nicknamed Legs by her friends and many of those same friends are still in her life today. Robert Hudson, a handsome neighborhood boy married Barbara and they had three beautiful children, Robert, Ronald, and Betty. Bob and Barbara enjoyed 40 happy years together until Bob's passing in 1988. Barbara was employed by the State of California Disability Office where she became manager and retired after 30 years of service. Barbara truly lived for her family, always putting all of our needs first. Her best days were spent preparing Sunday dinners surrounded by all of her children and grandchildren. Barbara also had quite a green thumb. She could grow vegetables, flowers and herbs with the best of them. She loved to share all of her bounty with family, friends and neighbors. Barbara loved to tell stories of the old days, especially her days in the Eagles Camper Club. What really defines Barbara's love for her family is the gift of life she gave her son Robert, who had kidney disease and she happily donated one of her kidneys to him. Preceding Barbara in death was her husband Bob, her sister Donna, her son Robert Paul, her grandson Scott Herndon and her great grandson Zachery Barter. Left behind to carry on her legacy of love are the many family members who love her dearly including her son Ronald Hudson and wife Amy, daughter Betty Herndon and Steve, her grandson's Robert Hudson Jr. and Stacey, Stephen Barter Jr. and Lori, Chad Hudson, Ben Laurin, Nick Herndon and Janelle, her granddaughter's Sonya Hudson, Nancy Polk and Shawn, Becky Meek and Justin, Natalie Stephens and Lance, her sister's Sylvia Randolph and Colleen Jackson and Jim, her brother John Neal, numerous, nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Barter Jr., Chad Hudson, Ben Laurin, Nick Herndon, Gary Plotner, Jeff Graham, Jerry Mason, Rick Somers, and Joe Smart. Services will be held at Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary, Thursday, February 15, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel.
