She was born in Frederick, Oklahoma on July 19, 1913, the youngest daughter of Henry Nabors and Rhoda Slack Nabors. The Nabors family moved to Shawnee, OK when she was four years old. "Bill," as she was known to her family, attended Shawnee public schools and following in the footsteps of her siblings, graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University. It was there that she met the "love of her life," J.D. Perry of Oklahoma City, an outstanding track athlete at OBU. Bill and J.D. were married in 1935 in Pawnee, Oklahoma. She is survived by three children of this marriage: Sue Bickham (Carl), and David Perry both of Corpus Christi, TX and John Perry (Amy) of The Woodlands, TX. Mildred and J.D's marriage took them from Oklahoma City to Florida and then to Texas. In 1959 they returned to Oklahoma and made their home in Muskogee. Mildred was an attentive, loving Mom, homemaker and great cook, but after returning to OK, she also became a skilled office worker. She also was a wonderful "Nana" to her six grandchildren. Following J.D.'s tragic death in 1963, Mildred assumed the duties of head of the family. She helped support David and John as they attended Oklahoma State University and was their number one cheerleader as they competed in track meets throughout the country. In 1966, Mildred married Robert Bryant of Muskogee. Following his death in 1977, Mildred moved back to Corpus Christi to be closer to her children. In 1979 she married Joe Hunter and they lived happily in the "family compound" on Hearn road until his death in 1994. Mildred was a member of the Calallen Baptist Church and was a Life Member of Northwest Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of several clubs that featured card games and dominos. Mildred was raised in a family that loved to play games and all family gatherings included a lot of laughter, good food, and competitive game playing. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Rhoda Nabors, her sisters, Louise Carey, Patty Searcy, Lela Maud Baker, her brothers Ralph and Miles Nabors, and daughter-in-law Maryanne Simonelli-Perry. In addition to her children, she is survived by six grandchildren, Carla Register (Randy), Michelle Wolff (Ron), Perri Taron (Mark), Dana Perry, Jennifer Perry, and Nate Perry, eight great grandchildren, and three great, great grandchildren. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Barbara Perry. Mildred's family wishes to thank her loving caregivers, Sylvia Anzaldua, Mary Lara, Elida "Marty" Martinez, Carmen Elizondo, and Diana Moreno whose devotion made it possible for her to remain in her home until her death. We also thank Nurses on Wheels hospice service. Visitation will be held Monday, October 22 from 2 - 8pm with the family present from 6 - 8pm at Sawyer-George Funeral Home. A memorial service and Celebration of Life will be held at Calallen Baptist Church on October 23 at 11:00am. Interment will be Friday, October 26 in Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee, Oklahoma, by Walker Funeral Home. Pallbearers: Nate Perry, Randy Register, Keith Emshoff, G.K. Bickham, Mark Taron, and Bob Billings. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make contributions to Calallen Baptist Church, 13505 IH 37 Access Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78410. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Tillman County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/tillman/tillman.htm
