Mr. Spencer died Saturday, June 7, 2003, in Frederick. ========= Lawton Constitution 10 Jun 2003 Thomas Spencer FREDERICK -- Funeral for Thomas "Tom" Spencer, 68, Frederick, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gray Gish Funeral Home Chapel, Frederick, with the Rev. Bonnie Strong, pastor, Manitou First United Methodist Church, officiating. Mr. Spencer died Saturday, June 7, 2003, in Frederick. Burial with military honors will be at Frederick Memorial Cemetery. He was born Jan. 1, 1935, in Providence, R.I., to James Earnest and Ellen Margaret Brown Heanue. He attended grammar school in Washington, R.I., and high school in Coventry, R.I. He married Janet Josephine Turner on April 29, 1967, in the Church of the Saint Mary\\rquote s in Wisbech, England. He later married Pat Cullar. He served in the Marine Corps from 1953 until he was honorably discharged in 1957. He served in the Army from 1957 to 1959. In 1961, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in Lakenheath, England, and served in the Queen\\rquote s Air Force. He was later transferred to Altus Air force Base where he served until his retirement in 1979 as a tech sergeant. Military awards he received include Air Force Commendation Medal, USAF NCO Academy Graduate Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Award, 4 Oakleaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, 1 Oakleaf Cluster, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, 1 Silver Oakleaf Cluster and Republic of Vietnam Gallant Cross with Palm. He attended Western Oklahoma State College, Altus, from 1980 to 1981. He received a bachelor\\rquote s degree in Elementary Education in 1984, and became licensed to teach. He worked as a dispatcher for the Frederick Police Department, from 1986 to 1999 when he retired. He was a member of DAV, and VFW Post No. 4876. He was a member of Manitou First United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Michele Spencer, England; a brother and sister-in-law, Francis "Fran" George and Shirley Heanue, Florida; two grandchildren: Amy and Jenna; and several nieces and nephews.
