Boots was born in Manitou, Tilman County, OK , November 12, 1914. He was the first son born to Josephus "C" and Nellie Vesta Fant Walker. He graduated from high school in Scottsdale, AZ where he was known as the "Prince of Sports." He played football, baseball, and ran track. He was an athlete and when not playing baseball as a young man, he was roping wild horses with his best friend, Dr. Eddie Tamm, of Redding, CA. Boots was a cowboy. Hard work was his way but horses were his passion. His love of horses extended throughout his life. He could be found many week ends team roping in local arenas. He raised prize winning quarter horses as well as roping horses. Having one of his horses selected as "Pacific Coast Quarter Horse of the Year" was Boots' proudest horse achievement. Boots came to California in 1938. While cruising Long Beach's Ocean Blvd. in his Cadillac convertible, he recognized a girl, Opal Alice Mathis, from his hometown high school. Boots immediately told his friend, "There goes the gal I am going to marry." They married in 1939. Boots retired from Southern California Gas Company after 35 years; he then began his own oilfield welding service. He was a hard worker; he believed in honesty, being straight forward, and always lending a helping hand. Boots was a man of integrity. Foremost in Boots' life was his love of family. He told everybody how much he loved his beautiful wife, Opal, and what a wonderful family he had. His eyes sparkled when one of his grandchildren or great-grandchildren entered the room. In addition to Opal, his wife of 68 years, Boots is survived by his daughter, Kathy McDonnell, son-in-law, Dennis; son, Terry, daughter-in-law, Kathy; his sister, Nona Lee Bliss of Placerville, CA; two brothers, Chester Vernon and wife, Gert, of Lakeside, AZ and Harold Herman of Orlando, FL. Boots was the best grandpa in the world to his grandchildren, Craig and Clare Walker of Rayne, LA; Erin Kloepper and husband, Matt, of Bakersfield, Sarah Flores and husband, Rob, of Arroyo Grande, CA;, and Alison Walker and husband, Kevin Eustice, of Los Angeles and Lindsey Walker of Granada Hills, CA; and great-grandchildren, Jakob Creal and Paige Kloepper, Conner and Caitlin Walker, and Kai and Elise Flores.
