Gibbs born November 7, 1863 died February 18, 1935 Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon, February 19. at the First Baptist Church at 1:30 P.M., in charge of C.M. Moser, Minister of the Church of Christ interment in Frederick Cemetery Rites Tuesday for William R. Gibbs- Pioneer Plainsman passes away at home here early Monday morning. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in the First Baptist Church for W.R. Gibbs, 71, pioneer Oklahoma and Texas Plainsman, who passed on at 5:45 o'clock Monday morning after a critical illness of ten days duration. C.M. Moser, Minister of the Church in Frederick, will conduct the services. He will be assisted by R.F. Whitaker and James M. Camp of Tipton. Rev. H.W. Stigler, now visiting in Tulsa, has been asked to participate, but it is not known whether he will be able to return to Frederick in time. Interment will be made in the Frederick Cemetery. Mr. Gibbs suffered a stroke of paralysis ten days ago from which he never rallied. He clung to life firmly for several days, after hope of his recovery had been abandoned by relatives and close friends. (NATIVE OF TEXAS) William Rutledge Gibbs was born November 7, 1863, at Goliad, Texas, in southern part of the Lone Star State. There he was reared and received his early education. In 1881 he moved with his parents to Wise County, Texas. September 16, 1886, he was married in Cooke County, Texas, to Miss. Nettie Hobbs, who was his close companion and helpmate through a long and successful life. The family spent a year in Wise County and came to Oklahoma Territory in 1887, settling near Duncan. They removed to Tillman County in 1902, purchasing a farm four miles south and nine miles west of Frederick, which remained as their home until 1925, when they moved to Tipton. Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs came to Frederick in 1930, purchasing the S.P. Bennett home on North Thirteenth Street which has been their residence. Mr. Gibbs had long been prominent in the development of Tillman County from a Plains Country into an area of fertility, by careful planning, frugality and industrious effort he enjoyed a profitable life. (MEMBER OF CHURCH OF CHRIST) More than forty years ago he united with the Church of Christ and remained a faithful adherent and staunch supporter of that faith where ever he made his home. Mr. Gibbs was a man who dealt on the Golden Rule. He was a neighbor whose friendship was always cherished by those about him, whose strong character influenced the lives of others, a good father and husband. His passing was a sad event for all who knew him. In addition to his widow, Mr. Gibbs is survived by these children; Mrs. R.C. Aldredge, H.L. Gibbs, Mrs. Joe Peters. Mrs. Barney Etter and Amos Gibbs, all living southwest of Frederick; B.W. Gibbs of Frederick and Mrs. Roy McDonald of Oklahoma City. In addition he has a host of grandchildren, all of whom live in Tillman County. Death takes W.R. Gibbs at home Pioneer Tillman resident had been gravely ill for past week W.R. Gibbs, 71, one of Tillman County's earliest settlers and long prominent in agricultural pursuits in this section, passed away at his home, 420 North Thirteenth Street, Monday morning. Mr. Gibbs had been gravely ill the past week, after suffering a stroke of paralysis nine days ago. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, with location of the rites to be set later in the day Members of the Church of Christ Ministry in this section will officiate, although the one to be in charge had not been designated early Monday. In addition to his widow, Mr. Gibbs is survived by these children; Mrs. R.C. Aldridge, H.L. Gibbs, Mrs. Barney Etter and Amos Gibbs, all living southwest of Frederick; B.W. Gibbs of Frederick and Mrs. Roy McDonald of Oklahoma City.
