I am going to copy and send you all of it piece by piece. She apologized for taking so long; but not only did her father suffer a stroke, but her mother just had back sugery. My scanner is down right now and I wanted to put it all in a file for my use as well as make sure that you have it also. The first part consists of articles that concern the cemetery and the immediate area. The next part will be the transcriptions of the surviving headstones. I will go to town and make a copy of the plat and send it to you when I get to the numbered graves.....Sandra TWIN MOUNDS Twin Mounds was a settlement in the early 1880's. It was named because of the prominent landmark, of two hills rising form the flat lands. The settlement originally had a store, school and several houses. When the railroad built south in 1903, it was by passed for a stop three miles further. Most of the businesses and people moved to the train stop named Mounds. The real need for the cemetery developed during the Glenn Pool oil boom, in 1905 to 1920. Longtime residents of the area say the cemetery was originally much larger than today's fenced portion. Some graves have been moved, but they suspect that others may be included in the nearby pasture land. There are some markers outside the fence now. The cemetery is not kept up at all. It lies close to Duck Creek, which makes it marshy at times. Though the cemetery is still used, no one wants to assume the responsibility for its preservation. Two photos at the bottom of the page show markers in tall grass and weeds. The captions read: ___D GRASS defy gravestone readers at Twin Mounds Cemetery alongside the Creek-Tulsa county line, and NO LONGER ORNAMENTAL is this fence placed at a lot in Twin Mounds Cemetery. Herald, Wednesday, February 23, 1973 (5?)-Page Seven-A 'LOST GRAVE' CHRONICLED Not everyone has a grave planted in their front yard, but not everyone lives at the site of the first oil well of the Glenn Pool, as do Mr. and Mrs. Alva R. Shanks, near Glenpool. The grave is that of Elmer Glenn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Glenn, born Feb. 1901 and died May 1903. It is only a short distance from the first oil well, which was drilled in 1907. Mr. and Mrs. Shanks purchased the property approximately 15 years ago and thus became the fourth owners of the property. It was a portion of the allotment of Ida Glenn, Creek Roll No. 2968. The Glenns deeded the land to Y. E. and Pearl Dunn in 1929 and they remained owners until 1842, when it was transferred to Floyd and Sylvia Clinkenbeard, last owners before Mr. and Mrs. Shanks. The history of that first well has been chronicled and rechronicled, but little has been noted of the grave which was titled "The Lost Grave" by Luke Myles when he visited the plot and photographed it. One is made to wonder why the grave was situated there when several members of the Glenn family are buried in the Twin Mounds cemetery, located about three miles to the southwest. A plot there is fenced in similar fashion to the pipe fence which surrounds the baby Elmer's grave. In it are the parents of Robert Glenn and other relatives. Some of them are Mary J. Glenn, Mr. 1. 1832-Mar. 15, 1887(1897?); Minerva M. Carter, Oct. 1, 1859-Sept. 14, 1896; Beatrice, daughter of Ode and Ellen Petty, Sept. 23, 1904; James N. Carter, Aug. 9, 1853-July 23, 1942; Mary J. Carter, Sept. 28, 1863-Apr. 1. 1960 (1850?). There are two gravestones for J. D. Glenn, one tall marker, similar to that of Elmer, which carries the inscription Jackson D. Glenn, Feb. 7, 1830-Apr. 10, 1905. Beside it is Elizabeth A., his wife, Mar. 1, 1832-July 4, 1919. The last two are said to be the parents of Robert Glenn, and the Mrs. Cater is the elder Glenn's sister. Since there are two grave markers for J. D. Glenn, and both "Mary J. Glenn" and "Elizabeth A." were born one Mar. 1, 1832, there seems to be a possibility they were twins. The Twin Mounds cemetery is not as well cared for as it might be, but it is a place for delving into the early history of that area. Twin Mounds was a landmark for trailblazers or pioneers who trekked into and through the territory many years before statehood. There is a photo of the grave mentioned in the article with the following caption: "THE LOST GRAVE" of Elmer Glenn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Glenn, of the family for whom the famed Glenn pool ---was named. Photographed by Luke Myles. Notation: This is no longer the case as the Sivadon family and the Twin Mounds Pioneer Cemetery Association have restored and are preserving it as an Oklahoma State Historical Area. It is now an attractive and historically interesting site. Subject: Twin Mounds Info, part two LIST OF MARKERS: CASTEEL, Lela L. dau. Of W. R. and I. B.
