Baxter, a former administrator of Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital, died Thu30Dec1999. He was 82.Ninde Garden Funeral Home Baxter was administrator of the hospital from 1953 until 1973.The hospital is now Tulsa Regional Medical Center. During his tenure, the hospital expanded in 1953, 1959, 1966 and 1973-75. He was born in Sherman, Texas, and attended the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science, where he became a licensed embalmer and funeral director. He was the business manager of Forth Worth Osteopathic Hospital before moving to Tulsa in 1953. Baxter was a trustee, president, executive committee member and chairman of the building committee of the American Osteopathic Hospital Association. He was a charter member of the American College of Osteopathic Hospital Administrators, a board member of Oklahoma Blue Cross and Blue Shield and president of the Tulsa Hospital Council. He was a member of the Tulsa Area Health and Hospital Planning Council, a board member of the Kirksville (Mo.) College of Osteopathic Medicine and a medical adviser to the Oklahoma Department of Public Welfare. Baxter is survived by his wife, Caromae Baxter of Owasso; one brother, Lloyd Baxter of Austin, Texas; and two sons, Tom Baxter and Cap Baxter, both of Tulsa. Memorial donations may be made to the L.C. Baxter Memorial Library at Tulsa Regional Medical Center. CHALMERS James Scott, III, 80, of Tulsa, died Sun 2Jan2000. He was born in Front Royal, VA on April 23, 1919 to Dr. James Scott Chalmers, Jr. and Clarinda Chalmers. He grew up in Sand Springs and graduated from Texas Tech University. He was a Major in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was a Professional Engineer, retired from Warren Petroleum. He operated the Chalmers' Art & Frame business for 17 years and was a volunteer worker at Gilcrease Museum. He was steadfast, loyal and honorable. His family and friends will miss him greatly. Preceded in death by son, John Carter Chalmers. He is survived by: his wife of 58 years, Maxine Chalmers; sons, J. Scott Chalmers IV and wife, Judy and Stephen L. Chalmers and wife, Tracey; grandchildren, Jason Scott Chalmers and wife, Sonja and Keely A. Chalmers; brother, Jeff Chalmers and wife, Betty; nephew, Jeff and nieces, Clarinda and Alicia; nephews, Kelly and Jimmy and nieces, Christie and Becky. FELKINS Lois L., 83, of Tulsa, OK, died December 31, 1999. She was retired from ZEBCO where she had been a Supervisor. Lois' husband, Marvin, preceded her in death on January 28, 1999. Other family members preceding her were brothers, Claude and James Smith and sister, Jetty Lipps. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Cathy Felkins, Independence, KS and daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Raymond Abdo, Tulsa, OK; 5 grandchildren, Danny, Michelle and Georgianne Abdo and Jeremy and Aaron Felkins. Service will be 10 a.m., Friday at Fitzgerald Ivy Chapel. Interment will be at Floral Haven Cemetery. The Fitzgerald Funeral Service, 585-1151. GEPHART, Charles Gregory, a Tulsan who made his mark as a teacher and coach at some of the nation's most prestigious schools, died 14Dec1999. He was 47. A memorial service was held Dec. 17 in Houston. Gephart was born in Wagoner and graduated from Holland Hall in 1971. During his senior year he was the captain of the varsity football team, president of the student council and winner of the Outstanding Senior award. He earned his bachelor's degree in philosophy at Vanderbilt University in 1976. At Vanderbilt he was president of his fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha, and served on a number of responsible student government and collegiate committees. He started his academic career at Andrew College in Cuthbert, Ga., and Erskine College in Due West, S.C. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce named Gephart one of its Outstanding Young Men of America in 1979, the same year he returned to Holland Hall as a middle school social studies and mathematics teacher and coach in football, soccer and field hockey. In 1986, he was named a member of Holland Hall's Cum Laude Society. That same year he accepted a position at Kinkaid School in Houston, where he taught middle school math and coached field hockey and soccer. During the 1988-89 school year he also served as middle school dean. In 1989, he was appointed director of admissions at Durham Academy in Durham, N.C., where he also taught middle school math and language arts and served as head varsity field hockey coach. In 1992, he accepted the position of assistant field hockey coach and academic support coordinator at Duke University. In 1994 he was named assistant to the president and field hockey manager for Longstreth Sporting Goods Co. in Parkerford, Pa. He returned to teaching in 1996, accepting a position as middle school math teacher and coach at Kinkaid School. He held that position until his death. He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Gregory Gephart of Wagoner; two brothers, John Marshall Gephart and Thomas Jefferson Gephart; and two sisters, Elizabeth Hyde and Catherine Shook. Friends are making memorial contributions to Holland Hall School. HERROLD Bonnie "LaFern", 81, daughter of Henry Marion and Winnie Grace (Luster) Moore, was born at Kiefer, OK, April 28, 1918. She died last Sunday evening about 8:40 p.m., January 2, 2000 at Tulsa's Ambassador Manor Nursing Home, quietly, peacefully, amid family members and a host of unseen angels. Her life passed from mortality to immortality - the dark night of suffering thus came to an end and the first-light of a glorious, eternal life began in the heavenlies with Jesus, her Lord and Savior. Long ago she met her life-long best friend and surviving husband, Reu Golden Herrold. They married at Chandler, January 27, 1938. She died just 25 days short of their 62nd Wedding Anniversary. A mother and housewife most of her life, she sometimes worked in retail sales at J.C. Penney's at Ponca City, Claremore and Oklahoma City and at Stewart's. A loving mother (mother-in-law) and mentor of 4 children, she left them, 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren surviving, namely: children, Donald (Mary) Herrold, Jack (Cathy) Herrold and Tamara (Mrs. Christopher Holt), all Tulsans, and Tina (Mrs. Stephen Gilliland, M.D.) of Moore; grandchildren, David (Amy), Daniel (Amanda), Shannon (Mrs. Jeremy) Faulkner, Brittany Howard, Jonathan Holt, all of Tulsa, Matthew Herrold, Houston, TX, Katie Gilliland of Moore, Reed Gilliland of Atlanta, GA and Tasha Todd of Dallas, TX; and great-grandchildren, Hannah and Samuel Herrold. Sisters and brothers (and in-laws) surviving include Jack N. (Mary L.) Moore, Edmond, J. Marguerite (Mrs. Edwin) Mielenz, Thomas G. (Dorothy) Moore and Ralph Moore of Oklahoma City, M. Joy (Mrs. Donald) Wright, Sr., Wellington, NC, Vera Abbott of Claremore and a great many nieces and nephews. Interment by direction of Ninde Woodland will be held privately at Memorial Park Cemetery. KAPPLE Perry, 86, died Monday, January 3, 2000. Born December 12, 1913 in Iowa, retired from Frisco Railroad, charter member Beams of Light Tabernacle, last member of the "Cat Gut Five" musical group. Survived by: wife of 62 years, Eska; children, Dr. Fred and Brandy Kay Kapple, Tulsa, Norma Jean and Alan Lasley of Illinois; grandchildren, Chris and Marian Casey, Keith and Sony Kapple, Shelley and Kevin Rogers, Matt and Stacey Lasley, Mark and Carla Lasley, Cory and Katy Kapple; 12 great-grandchildren. She was born January 21, 1908 in Kentucky to Henry and Mary Ellen (Spalding) Huff and was 1 of 11 children. Her sisters, Pat Huff, Oklahoma City, OK and Sr. James Ellen Huff, Nazareth, KY; and her nieces, Goldie Walther and Ruth McArthur, survive her. Marguerite moved to Oklahoma City in 1926 and later moved to Bristow where she met Ray Pickett whom she married December 25, 1928. They were married for 62 years and adopted a son, George. Over the years Marguerite and Ray lived in Bristow, Claremore, Tulsa and Jenks. They owned and operated furniture and appliance stores in Tulsa and Jenks. The Picketts, along with Ray and Margaret Greener were instrumental in starting St. Bernard of Clairvaux Parish. Marguerite was active in a Rosary Group, The Business and Professional Women's Club and she volunteered at St. John Medical Center and Meals on Wheels. She also sang in the choir at St. Clement's in Bixby and early on at St. Bernard's. She was involved in numerous activities at St. Bernard's. The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Bernard's Church toward a memorial for the new chapel in honor of Marguerite or to the Jenks Meals on Wheels. A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m., Thursday and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m., Friday at St. Bernard's Church. SCHNEIDER Mrs. Elizabeth Hunt, age 94, of 1700 Bronson Way, Kalamazoo, MI, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2000 in Kalamazoo, MI. Mrs. Schneider was born April 27, 1905 in Wagoner, OK (which was at that time Indian Territory) to Mattie Rose and William T. Hunt. She was the 9th of 10 children. The family moved to Tulsa in 1918 where Betty attended high school and Tulsa University followed by Oklahoma University in Norman where she pledged Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Betty taught kindergarten and 3rd grade in the Tulsa school system. Subsequently she spent 2 years at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, graduating in 1927. She met her future husband, Elwood H. Schneider at Northwestern. Their first child, Elwood, Jr., was born in Evanston, IL. The Schneiders moved to Kalamazoo, MI in 1931 where they would remain for the rest of their lives. In 1933, Elwood opened his own investment company and in 1935 their daughter, Martha Rose, was born, followed by the birth in 1940 of their daughter, Sarah Elizabeth. While in Kalamazoo, both were active members of the First United Methodist Church. Betty was involved in Service Club (later Junior League) serving as President and the Girl Scouts. She also enjoyed the Book Review Club, Garden Club, the Symphony, Pi Beta Phi Alumni Group and many other activities in Kalamazoo. Mr. and Mrs. Schneider were long time members of the Kalamazoo Country Club and the Park Club and both enjoyed extensive travel. Betty's primary focus and love was her family, including the extended family and the cottage at Little Point Sable near Shelby, MI where many family gatherings occurred. They also spent their winters in Needles, CA near their daughter, Sarah. Surviving are her 3 children, Elwood, Jr. of Naples, FL, Martha Unger of Bellingham, WA and Sarah Chesney of Needles, CA; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood in 1985. She was the last survivor of the 10 siblings. A Memorial service will be held at 10:30, Tuesday morning at the First United Methodist Church, 212 S. Park St. with the Rev. Sandra Elfring officiating. He was born November 6, 1968 in Oklahoma City, OK to Edward Alexander Zamora and Susan Kay Wilson. He worked as a Paint Contractor for residential homes. Edward was also a philosopher and guitarist. He was dearly loved and will be missed greatly by his family and friends. He is survived by: his father, Edward A. Zamora of Oklahoma City; mother, Susan Coffey of Tulsa; son, Gage Zamora of Texas; brother, Eric Anthony Zamora of Tulsa; sister, Tina Michelle Courville of Oklahoma City; and grandmother, Herlinda Zamora of Texas. Service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, January 6, 2000 at the South Colonial Chapel. Services are under the direction of Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuary in Oklahoma City.
