BANKSTON'S RITES THURSDAY Services for John Hiram Bankston, 81, of 1314 S. Frisco Ave., a retired oil operator, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Ninde funeral chapel. He died Monday night in a Tulsa Hospital. An independent oil promotor in recent years, he formerly operated the Arkoma Oil Co. with his son, the late John H. Bankston. He was employed in the land department of the firm of the late John Garfield Buell, prominent Tulsa oilman, 5 years before he founded his own company. Mr. Bankston came to Tulsa in 1907 and owned the Parisian Cleaners, an early-day dry-cleaning plant. Previously he had been employed in Muskogee by the Katy railroad. He first came to Indian Territory in 1887, settling in what is now Sequoyah County. He was a native of Arkansas. A 32d degree Mason in the Tulsa Consistory, he was a member of the Delta Masonic lodge, the Akdar Shrine and the First Christian church. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Newell Carouthers, Fullerton, California and three grandchildren. Masonic graveside rites will be conducted in Memorial park cemetery.
