She was 67. Adams headed the TU nursing program from 1977 to 1991. Adams was one of six Oklahoma women honored as "Women of the Year" in 1983. In 1984, she was the first black woman named to the seven-member state mental health board. Adams had been a member and chaired numerous professional boards and commissions including the Advisory Committee on Nursing Education; the Health Policy Study Advisory Committee; Oklahoma League of Nursing; and the Educational Advisory Committee to the Oklahoma Board of Nurse Registration and Nursing Education. Dr. Adams was born in Pawhuska, Oklahoma and is the daughter of the late John B. Davis and Pearl V. Davis. Her sister Cleo Davis Phelps preceeded her in death. She leaves behind her husband Leo Adams, a sister, Johnnie Mae Davis, two nieces, Beverly Carol Parsons Johnson of Birnmingham, Alabama and Marjorie Thornton Bostic of Oklahoma City. Additionally she also leaves behind four nephews, Richard W. Parsons, Los Angeles, California, Dr. Harry D. Gatewood, II of Choctaw, Oklahoma, John D. Gatewood, I and Fred D. Gatewood both of Tulsa and a host of other realtives and friends.
