He was born on September 24, 1920 in Oakman, OK. He earned his B.A. Ed from NSU and his M.A. Ed from TU. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and Korea. He retired from the Naval Reserve as a Commander. He married Mariellen Batson on May 31, 1968. He retired from Tulsa Public Schools after 30 years as a music teacher and elementary principal. Upon retirement, Jess and his wife, Mariellen, moved to Disney, OK, on Grand Lake. He loved to play his trumpet, fish and work with wood. He is preceded in death by: his brother, Austin; his sister, Alline; and his daughter, Kathy. He is survived by: his wife of 39 years, Mariellen; his daughters, Linda (Murray) and Allison (Ballone) of Tulsa, Peggy (Bell) of Lafayette, IN; his sons, Steven of Tulsa and Mike of Stilwell. He is also survived by: 13 grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren, hundreds of wonderful friends and thousands of students who will always remember him as "old eagle eye Collins". Service 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 6, 2007 at First Christian Church, Langley, OK. Interment will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, OK.
