He grew up in Tarentum, PA, graduated from Park College, MO in 1934 and Princeton Theological Seminary in 1937. Ordained Presbyterian Church U.S.A., June 17, 1937. Received Dr. of Divinity degree in 1958. Served in Wilmington, DE, Buffalo, NY, Watervilet, NY, Shawnee, OK, Ft. Smith, AR, Oklahoma City, OK, Tulsa, OK and McAlester, OK. LaVerne was Associate Pastor, First Presbyterian Church, Tulsa, OK 1969-1973. LaVerne is survived by wife, Betty (of 62 years); 3 daughters, Betty Ward, Tulsa, OK, Lois Pief, Mission, TX, and Mary Roddy, Greenwood, AR; 6 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Monday, May 21 at 2 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, Tulsa, OK.
