He was born July 9, 1913 in Bartlesville, OK to Elam F. Rice and Bessie Bowen Rice. He graduated from Central High School, then attended The University of Tulsa and Cornell University. His career in club and restaurant management began with a job at Tulsa's Mayo Hotel, then The Mayflower Hotel, Washington, DC. He joined the Army during WWII and served as Captain in the Army Paratroopers in the European Theater, 1941-45. He married Mary Tate, November 4, 1954. After the war he resumed work at The Mayflower, then became Manager of The University Club, Washington, DC for 17 years. He retired to Tulsa to be close to his family and became Manager of The Tulsa Club for 2 years before actually retiring. He enjoyed his career so much that he often remarked there was never a day that he didn't look forward to going to work. His wife, Mary, preceded him in death, March 31, 1981. He is survived by: a step-son, Franklin Scott Rice, Seattle, WA; 2 sisters, Mildred Brown and Doris Herron, both of Tulsa; special friends, Jane and Don Seanard, Sand Springs; many nieces, nephews and precious friends. Mink will be lovingly remembered as a true gentleman. He loved children, gardening, woodworking and his dogs. He will also be remembered for being a great storyteller because of his zeal for living, his love of people and the life-experiences he enjoyed remembering. Service 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 4, 2000, Christview Christian Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. Moore's Eastlawn, 622-1155.
