Mitchel was born October 18, 1923 in Parkhill, Oklahoma to Willie Wade and Mattie (Kirk) Hines. He was the eldest of seven children, four brothers and two sisters. Mitch was raised on the traditional 30s style Oklahoma family farm, which instilled in him a hard work ethic and solid Christian values. In 1941 at the tender age of 17 he was drafted into the Army. After initial, trainings at Indian Town Gap, PA, he deployed to the Philippines in support of WWII. Upon completion of his tour of duty he left active service and remained in the Oklahoma Reserves for 8 months. The passion of selfless service and the desire to be a Navy Pilot caused Mitch to re-enlist even though he was not able to be a pilot, due to a diagnosis of color-blindness. Mitch was not wavered in his duty to serve his country. This eventually led to more hazardous duty in support of the so-called forgotten war. Upon his completion of service in Korea, Mitch continued to serve until the Viet Nam Campaign initiated, at which time he respectfully submitted his retirement paperwork after 21 years, 11 month and 5 days of service. This included duty in not only the Philippines and Korea, but also; Ft. Sill, OK, Ft. Logan, CO, and Ft. Luis, WA; during which time he earned many accommodations to include the combat infantry badge, the combat medical badge and the bronze star.Shortly after retirement, Mitch relocated his family, which had grown to five children, from Tacoma, Washington to Tahlequah, OK, to mourn the loss of his father in 1969. Shortly thereafter, Mitch and the family moved to Tulsa where he eventually started his trade as a machinist at Sperry Vickers in north Tulsa where they enjoyed life and raised three loving children. Shortly after his retirement in 1986 they relocated back to Washington State for two years and returned to Tulsa where he spent his latter years surrounded by his family of six children, 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren along with countless friends and family. All who knew him will deeply mourn his passing, with peaceful understanding that he is in a better place. .Funeral service was held 12:30 P.M. Saturday, March 5, 2005, Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Veterans Field of Honor, Floral Haven Memorial Gardens, Broken Arrow, OK.
