Note: There is one known error in the following obituary. William K. SMITH should *not* be William. His name was literally Bill, not a nickname. Luther O. SMITH Rites on Monday Luther O. SMITH, 59, 1003 S. St. Louis av., retired Tidewater Associated Oil Co. employe, [sic] died Friday in a local hospital after an extended illness. Born in Hattiesburg, Miss., Mr. SMITH first came to Tulsa in 1903. He had been employed by the Tidewater company for 26 years in Drumright, Boston, Mass., Texas, and Bayonne, N.J., returning to Tulsa in 1945. He retired about a year ago. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Lena M. SMITH of the home; two sons, John D. SMITH of Kellyville, and William K. SMITH of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs. C. E. Williams; 916 S. Guthrie av., and Miss Betty Ruth SMITH of Boston, Mass.; his mother, Mrs. Annie E. SMITH, 911 S. Detroit av., and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Moore's Memory chapel, with interment in Memorial Park. The family has requested that in lieu of the usual remembrance, contributions be made to the St. John's hospital children's wing.
