Leon, the son of the late Levi and Sletha (Sells) Capps, was born March 7, 1936 in Muskogee, Oklahoma and spent his youth growing up in the Muskogee area with a large and loving family. Leon accepted the Lord, was baptized and became a member of the Okay First Baptist Church. Leon will be remembered for his optimistic and joyful outlook on life and the generosity and love he showed his family and everyone he met. Before his illness, Leon spent his leisure time playing golf and traveling throughout the United States. Prior to his retirement from General Service Administration, he managed several service stations at various locations in Muskogee. After his retirement, spending time with his family was a full time commitment. Those Leon left behind to mourn his passing and celebrate his home coming to Heaven are: His wife, Joan; tow daughters and sons-in- law Cheryll and Roger Synar of Muskogee and Nancy and James Coffman of Wagoner, Oklahoma; three grandchildren and their spouses, Scott (Amanda) Stockton, Carrie (Troy) Thornton and Bridgett (Robert Dale) Ruckman; nine great grandchildren, Taylor Grace Nail and Kayleigh Thornton of Keefeton, Oklahoma, Jacob, Chance and Michael Leon Stockton of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, Elton Clint, Amanda, Edyth and Anna Ruckman of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; five brothers and sisters-in- law, Ray (Cora Lee) Capps, Reverend Chester (Jean) Capps of Muskogee, Reverend Jerry (Alberta) Capps of Idabel, Oklahoma, Reverend Charles (Blanch) Capps of Keefeton and Larry (Martha) Capps of Warner, Oklahoma; two sisters, Geraldine Shackelford of Muskogee and Alma Capps of Wagoner and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts. Mr. Capps was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Richard Leon Capps and Bruce Capps and one brother, Arive Lee Capps. It is requested that in lieu of flowers those who wish may make donations to the: First Baptist Church of Okay (Building Fund) P.O. Box 100 Okay, OK 74464 or to Crossroads Hospice of Oklahoma 9916-A East 43rd Street Tulsa, OK 74146 Funeral services for Mr. Capps were held Thursday, August 15, 2002 at Okay First Baptist Church with Reverend Ron Forrest officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery with members of his Sunday School Class serving as pallbearers.
