All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Arlington Memory Gardens--Spencer OK Carothers, Edna Gower Edna Gower Carothers, 92, a long-time resident of Oklahoma City, OK died Saturday, March 3, 2003 at Ada, OK after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at the Portland Avenue Baptist Church, 1301 N. Portland Ave in Oklahoma City. Officiating will be Reverend Walter Mullican and Dr. J.P. Dane. Burial will be at Arlington Memory Gardens, 3400 N Midwest Boulevard in Oklahoma City under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home of Ada, OK. Family and friends visitation will be held on the morning of the funeral at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00. Edna was born May 30, 1910 at Wagoner, OK. When she was a year old, she and her family moved to Last Chance, OK near Okemah, OK, where she attended school and eventually married G.W. Gower. He preceded her in death and she moved her family to Oklahoma City where she was employed at Tinker Air Force Base. In Oklahoma City she married Clyde Carothers. He also preceded her in death. Edna was also preceded in death by two sons, Roy Lee Carothers in May 1997 and Gary D. 'Corky' Gower in September, 2000. She is survived by two children, Georgia Lou Pfeil and husband, Earl of Houston, TX and Mary Ann Frame and husband, Norman, of Ada, OK; six grandchildren, four nieces and a host of friends. Edna was an active member of the Portland Avenue Baptist Church. She taught a Sunday School class for 54 years. She was a charter member of the Son Shine Choir and was director of the Drama Club for a number of years. Edna also was active in the Senior Adult Club where she served as program chairperson. She was Past President of the WMU and also served as president of the Oklahoma County Association. Edna also served in The Order of Eastern Star, being Past Matron of Oklahoma Chapter #10, at which time she held many offices and worked hard for the organization. She was a member of the Past Matrons Club of Oklahoma, and was an active member of the Sheaf Chapter #512. Edna was also a member of the Fidelis Oklahoma Chapter #426. She earned the Rainbow Cross of color and many other honors. Pallbearers will be Cletus Scrivner, David Wright, Kenney Smith, John Bradshaw, B.F. Phillips, and Leroy Shannon.
