Erlene Gadlage passed away in Tulsa, OK, on Tuesday, January 4, 2007 following a brief illness. Erlene was born July 31, 1933 to Joseph M. Fanning and Belle Sumter Fanning in Porter, OK, the youngest of 10 children. Her family farmed cotton in the Gar Creek area in the 30's and 40's. They later moved to Glenpool, OK, then to Tulsa where she attended Central High School. Erlene met and married her devoted husband, Kenneth Gadlage, who moved to Tulsa, after returning from serving with the Marines in Korea to get his A & P Aviation certification. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in September of 2006. She was an avid gardener, and loved nature and animals. She loved to fish for crappie and was an expert at it. Erlene was an artist, sewing, painting and drawing Early American primitive reproduction quilts, dolls, and other items. She spent many years selling her creations as well as primitive antiques and collectibles at the Tulsa Flea Market, and was once featured in the Living Section of the Tulsa World. Erlene was preceded in death by: her parents; a son at birth, Stephen Allen; her brothers, Tommy Fanning, Lewis Fanning and Joe Monroe Fanning; sisters, Irene Cartright, Thelma Fanning, Della Day, and Flossie Morrell. She is survived by: her husband; daughters, Judy Gadlage and husband, James Lawrence, Kelly Creekmore and husband, Chris, Teresa Coppage and husband, Terry; a son, Russell Gadlage; grandchildren, Dennis Cornelius, Kimmy Cornelius, Jesse Cornelius, Christina Gadlage, Malachi Gadlage, Russell Gadlage Jr., Miranda Gadlage, Marcus Gadlage, Matthew Gadlage, Sarah Coppage, Laura Coppage and Grady Coppage; sister, Grace Denton; and brother, Jimmy Fanning; and a host of nieces and nephews. Erlene and Ken were members of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Coweta, OK, where they have lived since 1970. Service and internment are arranged by Floral Haven in Broken Arrow. A Rosary Mass will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2007, at the Floral Haven Chapel, the memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2007, at St. Vincent de Paul in Coweta, and a graveside service will follow at Floral Haven. Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, was energetic, gifted and fun-loving. We loved and cherished her and cannot imagine a day without her, but we are comforted that she is at peace in the presence of her Lord.
