All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Vernon Cemetery--Coweta OK Poplin, Lela Louise Vernon 1919 - 2005 Lela Louise Vernon Poplin, 85, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at a local hospital. Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of University Christian Church with Dr. Alan Lobaugh officiating. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Friday in Vernon Cemetery, Coweta, Okla. Visitation: The family will receive friends 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the church parlor. Honorary pallbearers: Ray Kennedy, Robert Thompson, Neil Franklin, Paul Clark, Derek Kennedy, David Sharp, Dale Erickson, Lela Standifer and JoAnn Spencer. Lela Louise Vernon Poplin was born Nov. 22, 1919, in Coweta, Okla., the second child and only girl born to Lem and Ella Weeks Vernon. She graduated from Coweta High School and worked briefly as a clerk at First National Bank. She married A.J. Poplin on Nov. 14, 1940, in Coweta. They made their home in Tulsa and moved to Fort Worth following World War II. They had one son, Jerry Vernon Poplin, born in 1949. Her husband and son both preceded her in death, as well as her brothers, Clyde and Jim. Louise was a lifelong member of the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. She was a member of University Christian Church in Fort Worth for over 60 years and enjoyed singing in the choir. The last few years, when she was unable to live alone any longer, she made her home at Oak Park Assisted Living and Broadway Plaza Cityview. The family wishes to thank Betty Kennedy and her family and Lela Standifer, who gave Louise countless hours of assistance and support, especially during these last five years. Survivors: Those who mourn her passing include her brother, Roy L. Vernon of Houston; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
