All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::NOT LISTED Batcheller, Mary Lee Carleton January 11, 1935 - December 9, 2006 Mary Lee was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to loving parents, Lee and Leola Carleton. She was born midday on January 11, 1935. The majority of her childhood was spent in Chandler, Oklahoma, spending summers with her Granny Mo lly Gunn. Mary Lee spent much of her childhood focused on her academics, music and studying literature. She graduated in 1953 from Chandler High School as Salutatorian. After graduation, Mary Lee attended college and started her young family. Through the years, Mary Lee raised her two boys, James (Alex) DeVilbiss and Eric Devilbiss, supported herself through school and graduated with honors, with a Master's degree in Library Science from the University of Oklahoma. Mary Lee was associated with many univ ersities and libraries over the years, which include The City Library of Chickasa, Oklahoma, as the head librarian at Oklahoma University and as a bibliographer at Cal Poly Tech in California. After moving to California, she met and fell in love with Oliver A. (Jolly) Batcheller. They married on May 23, 1984. Over the years, they traveled the world, extended their hearts to all that they encountered, and lectured worldwide on horticulture. Mary Lee will be forever remembered for her love of animals, mus ic, literature and, of course, plants. Mary Lee was a dedicated gardener-that led her to have many designs and ideas for her ever changing gardens. She showed a great talent and love for sewing and throughout her life made many beautiful quilts. All that knew her described her as a quiet woman, but when she spoke, people took note. She was gentle and kind, with a huge heart. Mary Lee was preceded in death by her loving parents, Lee and Leola Carleton and former husband, Oliver A. (Jolly) Batcheller. She i s survived by sons, James (Alex) DeVilbiss of Absarokee, Montana, Eric DeVilbiss of Montclair, California and John Batcheller of Ontario, California; granddaughters, Whitney DeVilbiss of Absarokee, Montana and Paige DeVilbiss of Corona, California; brother, Howard Carleton and sister-in-law, Carol Carleton of Tishomingo, Oklahoma; nephew, Brian Carleton and his wife, Donna Carleton, their three children, Cole, Kadi and Karri Carleton of fort Worth, Texas; niece, Crystal Whitfield and daughters. Mary Lee w as known for supporting and extending her help to fulfill the dreams of all her friends and family. She was always there if someone needed a shoulder to cry on and to help you get back on your feet. Mary Lee was an extraordinary woman who inspired many and will be greatly missed.
