He was employed by Owen Clark Plumbing for many years. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, and during that time did the plumbing for the construction of Minter Field in Shafter which was then an Army base. As a youth growing up in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, he sold newspapers to Will Rogers and filled the gas tank of the car owned by Bonnie and Clyde. He loved to fish and camp with his brothers, and enjoyed gambling at Whiskey Pete's. He could work on and repair anything, and was always there for anyone, but never asked anything of others. He was a man who truly "did it My Way". Doug is survived by his daughter, Donnie Gragg of Bakersfield; grandchildren, Don and his wife, Wendy of Utah, Jo and her husband, Michael Harville of Bakersfield; six great- grandchildren, Doug, Sarah, Brandon, Chelsea, McKell and Alyssa; brother, Leon Black of Fresno; and nieces and nephews. Many thanks to Kristin, LeAnn, and the staff of Optimal Hospice. Also many thanks to the 2:00 p.m. coffee buddies. Doug will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
