Services are pending with the Walker-Brown Funeral Home. ========= from 1-7-2003 Examiner Enterprise Irene Coke Alice Irene (White) Coke, 69, of Bartlesville, passed away at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2003 in the Bartlesville Care Center. Memorial Services will be held in Mrs. Coke's honor at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Walker-Brown Chapel with Dr. David George officiating. Interment will be in the Whiterose cemetery. Irene was born to Emmitt Van White and Bertha Bell (Brady) White on August 12, 1933 in Bartlesville, OK. As a young child, Irene lived in Tulsa, OK in the mid 30's returning to Bartlesville in the early 40's. Irene married her true love Merle Dean Coke from Dewey, OK on July 1, 1950. The couple made their home in Bartlesville. She was a loving devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. In the 1950's Irene worked at the first Lot-A-Burger in Bartlesville, later she worked at the Forrest Manor Nursing Home, until Irene and her husband took the position of custodians at the Virginia Avenue Baptist Church where they worked for a period of 20 years. Irene and Merle became members of the Virginia Avenue Baptist Church during this time, and made many life long friends. Irene and Merle, also helped care for the Highland Baptist Church in the evenings when they could. Irene had a love for people and enriched the lives of those she came in contact with. She loved to do crafts and enjoyed her craft group at the Virginia Avenue Church. She loved to make things for the people in her life. Irene enjoyed going to garage sales and spending time with the people she loved. Irene is survived by her 2 children, Jimmy Dean Coke & his wife Kearl L. (Gaines) of Bartlesville & Suzan Marlene (Samson) (Reed) Perkins & her husband Steve of Bartlesville. 4 grandchildren, Christina Kay Bishop & her husband Shawn, Jimmy Dean Coke Jr., Holly Irene (Samson) Hall & her husband Jeremy & Rachael Jean Samson, 6 great-grandchildren, Kearline Da'Tara Bishop, Katelyn Paige Bishop, Kandelyne Ciara Bishop, Timothy Merle Coke, Christopher Vaughn Coke & Blade Jasper Dean Coke. She had acknowledge great-grandchild Leah Brook Lefler Burge. Irene had a friend and beloved stepmother, Doris White of Dewey, OK & a step-father John Aderton. She had 3 sister-in-laws, Dorthy Crouch, Alice Mae Coke, & Lola DuPuis. As well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her husband Merle Coke, father, Emmitt White, mother, Bertha Bell Aderton, great-grandchild, Blade Jasper Dean Coke, and 2 brother-in-laws Earl Coke & James Crouch. God saw she was getting tired, a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around her, and whispered "come with me". With tearful eyes, worried hearts, we watcher her suffer, and watched her fade away to another place. Although we loved her dearly, we could not make her stay. On Jan. 4, 2003 a gentle heart stopped beating. Soft and gentle hands to rest.
