Clarke from 5-1-2003 Examiner Enterprise Ms. Jeanie Lindsay Clarke, 74, a Bartlesville resident since November, died at 7:08 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2003 in the St. John Medical Center, Tulsa, Okla. A memorial service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, New Britain, Conn. on May 31, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. Committal prayers and final rites will be directed by The Arnold Moore Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor her memory may forward their gift to The Arthritis Foundation , COPD-Support, Inc. or Retinoblastoma International. A native of Scotland, Jeanie Lindsay Clarke was born September 10, 1928 in Glasgow. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Jeanie (Dunn) Clarke. Jeanie was reared and received her education in Glasgow, Scotland. In 1939 when World War II began, she and her brother were sent to the rural area in the north for safety. After a few months they returned to their home. She attended a two year college in Scotland following her completion of high school and since the age of 14 had worked as a secretary in Scotland. On February 14, 1948, the family sailed for America. They made their home at New Britain, Conn. She was employed at Hugh Graham and Assoc. Advertising. She and Robert A. Hand were married in June of 1956. They later had residences in Newington and Simsbury, Conn. Following her divorce she worked as an executive secretary, including Hamilton Standard, Connecticut Children's Medical Center, Fox Press. In 1992 she moved to Florida where she lived in retirement and was a substitute teacher. She came to Bartlesville on November 24, 2002 to live near her son, Peter, and his family. Throughout her life she maintained her membership in the Methodist Church and was a member of the East Cross Methodist Church. She was active in several charitable organizations, including Meals on Wheels, Literacy Volunteers, Civitan and The Retinoblastoma Foundation. An avid golfer, she enjoyed watching the sport as well as tennis matches and also enjoyed playing Bridge. Surviving are five children, Susan Hand, Cordova, Tenn., Christine Hand- Parliman, and husband, Bradley, Coventry, Conn., Robert A. Hand, Jr., and wife, Sandy, Palm Springs, Florida, Peter Hand, and wife, Roben Bartlesville, Okla. and David Hand, Hartford, Conn.; a brother, James Clarke, and wife, Marsha, Crystal River, Florida; her grandchildren, Jeff LaPierre, Rebecca Hand, Lindsay Hand, Wesley Hand and Cameron Hand, Laura Punt, Bradley Parliman, III, Elizabeth Dublac and Ian Boggs; three great grandchildren and a devoted friend, Austin Johnson, Inverness, Florida.
