Nick Carter

Mr. Norman "Nick" C. Carter, retired Chemical Engineer for Phillips 
Petroleum Company and husband of Lucille Carter of Bartlesville, passed 
away Monday Jan. 13 at the age of 87. A prayer service is scheduled for 
7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15th, at the Walker-Brown Chapel in 
Bartlesville. Funeral services for Mr. Carter will be held 10:00 a.m. 
Thursday, Jan. 16th, at the Community of St. James with Fr. Bill Skeehan 
officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Carter 
will lie in state at the Walker-Brown Funeral Home until he is removed for 
services. Honorary pall bearers will be Bill Zoz of Murdock, NE, Frank Zoz 
of Waterloo, IA, Cliff Hinton of Edmond, OK, Kenny Erfurdt, Bob Hart, and 
Bill Dum of Bartlesville. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker-
Brown Funeral Home. Nick Carter was born Nov. 19, 1915 in St. Joseph, MO 
as the only child to Noah Fred Carter and Etta Lee (Slayton) Carter. Nick 
graduated high school in St. Joseph, MO. He then completed his degree in 
Chemical Engineering at the Univ. of Kansas at Lawrence, KS in 1939. He 
remained a lifelong Jayhawker. In May of 1941 Mr. Carter entered the U.S. 
Army. During his tour of duty he participated in the Battle of Germany 
receiving the following decorations and citations: European-African-Middle 
Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon with on Bronze star; an American Theatre 
Campaign Ribbon; a WWII Victory Ribbon; and an American Defense Service 
Ribbon. In March 1946, at the rank of Captain, he received his honorable 
discharge during the, demobilization following the war. Nick was proud to 
have served with Patton's Army" during the war. It was also during this 
time he met his beautiful wife Lucille (Wenzl). They were married 61 years 
at the time of his passing. Mr. Carter retired from the Phillips Petroleum 
Co. in 1982. During his 35 year career as a chemical engineer he worked in 
Sweeny, TX and Bartlesville. Mr. Carter moved his family to Bartlesville 
in 1968 where he remained through retirement. Mr. Carter is survived by 
his wife, Lucille of the home, 2 sons, Dr. William J. Carter of 
Bartlesville, Nick Carter of Lumberton, TX, 1 daughter, Sharon (Carter) 
Erfurdt of Bartlesville, 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. In 
lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in the memory of 
Nick Carter to Birthright of Bartlesville 301 SE Seneca or Eldercare of 
Washington County 410 SE Frank Phillips.
