Funeral services for Mr. Edens will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the graveside on the Edens family property in the Edens Flat community, northeast of Copan. Rev. Michael "Mike" Morris will be the officiant. Committal prayers and interment will be directed by The Arnold Moore Funeral Service. A native of Oklahoma, Robert Ray Edens was born at Copan on March 21, 1925. He was the son of the late Oscar and Ollie (Pennington) Edens. He was reared and received his education in the Copan community. he was active in oil field interests in the Washington County vicinity. He was enlisted in the United States Army in 1943 and served during World War II. He received a purple heart of valor. He and the former Miss Eleanora Ethelyn Hasseberg were married on November 24, 1945 at Winfield, Kansas and he made first home at Ft. Hood, Texas and Olympia, Washington where he was stationed at Fort Lewis. He received his honorable discharge in 1947. Mr. and Mrs. Edens moved to Caney, Kansas and he resumed his oil field interests there until he was retired in 1987. Since that time, Mr. and Mrs. Edens have lived in the rural Copan, Edens Flats community northeast of Copan since that time. Mr. Edens was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was a life member of the Caney, V. F. W. Post #9768 and the Caney, Kansas Ernest Brown American Legion Post #138. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Eleanora Ethelyn (Hasseberg) Edens, of the home in the Edens Flat community, rural Copan; four sons, Robert "Bob" Chaffee and his wife, Mary Alice and Anthony "Tony" Chaffee and wife Glenda, all of Bartlesville, Howard "Doc" Edens and wife Patti and Oscar "Bill" Edens and wife Jerry, all of rural Copan, Okla.; four daughters, Ms. Roberta Segraves and Mrs. Helen Woody and her husband James "Jim", all of Copan, Ms. Anita K. Dyer, Dewey, Okla. and Mrs. Anne Chaney, rural South Coffeyville, Okla.; 25 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren and one brother, Clifford Oscar Edens, Wichita, Ks.
