She was 72 years of age. Doreen was born Feb. 5, 1935, in a raging snowstorm in Newcastle, Wyo. A musically gifted child, she enjoyed hours of lessons in piano, voice and dancing in her youth. Her parents, Imogene and George Mahoney, had a busy household with two older daughters and a long line of beloved pets. Doreen met her future husband, Rollin Hornbuckle, in eighth grade while living in Bartlesville, Okla. They later married and spent 52 years together, raising their own family of four daughters. The family followed Rollin's career in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service from Oklahoma to Albuquerque to California and finally to Beaverton in 1970, where they remained. After retirement, Doreen and Rollin spent many happy times with their dog Missy, traveling the Pacific Northwest as they pursued their lifetime love of the outdoors. They especially enjoyed salmon fishing on the Columbia River and they made yearly trips to British Columbia for salmon and bottomfish. Rollin passed away in late 2005. Doreen is survived by her four daughters, Linda Crawford, Syreece McLean, Deborah Harris and Georgene Millard, all of whom have settled with their families in the local area. There are five grandchildren including Meredith, Annie, Mary, Leigh and Connor. Doreen was a loving mother and friend to her daughters and she is deeply missed. Memorial services are being held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Valley Memorial Gardens in Hillsboro. Remembrances may be sent to Beaverton Kaiser Hospice.
