Funeral services for Mr. Melton will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the Arnold Moore - Dewey Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Roman Ward, Jr. and Pastor Lars Gwartney will be the officiants. Committal prayers and interment will be directed in the Dewey Cemetery by the Arnold Moore - Dewey Funeral Home. The James H. Teel American Legion Post #105 will accord Mr. Melton at the graveside military rites. A native of Oklahoma, Johnny Paul Melton was born on December 22, 1941 near Fishcreek. He was the son of the late James William "Bill" and Mildred A. (Tate) Melton. Johnny was reared and received his education in the Fishcreek, Limestone, Oglesby and Ramona Schools. He was graduated with the Senior Class of 1959 from the Bartlesville College High School. Johnny was enlisted in the U. S. Army following high school and after serving six months; he attended Oklahoma State University before joining the United States Navy where he served aboard the USS Maddox until his discharge in 1964. He returned to Bartlesville and became very active in stock car racing at the old Dewey Speedway. He and the former Kay Toalson were united in marriage on February 5, 1966 in Neosho, Missouri. Johnny was employed with his brother, R. W. "Billy" Melton and by the Reda Pump Co. In May of 1968, he moved his family to San Jose, California where he was employed by General Electric, National Can Co. and the Frito Lay Company. In 1977 he worked for Pinata Foods and moved to Napa, California. In 1980 he was employed by LaPrino Foods Co. in Tracy, Calif. as a maintenance engineer until 1990. He then worked for Hills Brothers Coffee in both the San Francisco and the Union City plants until they were closed. He then was employed by Fred Band & Associates of Sacramento, Calif. He returned to Dewey, Okla. in 2000 and worked for his brother, Terry Melton. In 2001 he temporarily returned to California for a temporary assignment and again in 2003 for the Fred Band & Associates to aid in the construction and installation of a new cheese plant in Tipton, Calif. Surviving are his wife, Kay (Toalson) Melton, of the Dewey home; two sons, Scott Wahnee, California and Jerry Lee Melton, Dewey; a grandson, Andrew James Melton, Dewey; a brother, Terry and his wife, Darlene Melton, Bartlesville; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Betty Melton, Bartlesville; two nieces, Mrs. Brad (Linda) King and Mrs. Frank (Shonna) Dickinson, Bartlesville; two nephews, Terry Michael Melton and Ronnie and Rita Raines; his aunts, Ruby Jordan, Wanda Walden, Annis Butler, Theobell, Grace and Martha Tate; an uncle, S. C. and his wife, Louise Tate, Oglesby; many cousins, extended family members and many many friends. His father; mother; a sister, Lily and his older brother R. W.
