John H. Norton, 72, died at 1:25 a.m., July 2 in the hospital in Jay,after several years of Illness. Funeral services were conducted Thursday July 5, for Rev. John Norton in Colonial Chapel of the Neekamp Funeral Home with the Rev. James Bennett, president of the Christian Fellowship, officiatiing assisted by Rev. Leo Bennett of the Free Holliness Church, Southwest City, Missouri and Rev. Leroy Sewell pastor of Midway Full Gospel Church,Oakhurst,Ok. Burial was in the White Rose Cemetery under the direction of the Neekamp Funeral Home. A native of Indian Territory, Mr. Norton was born in Ochelata, Feb.26,1907 to John and Anna Amelia (Hall) Norton. He was reared and educated in the Bartlesville area. As a young man he was married to Lela May Shoup on November 23, 1929 by Rev,Cobb. They made their home in Bartlesville area where he was active in construction and early day oilfield work prior to his becoming active as an ordained minister in 1937. Rev. Norton served with the undenominational fellowship with churches in VanBuren,Ark., Arkansas City, Kansas, Bartlesville, Jay, Nowata, Shidler, and Webb City,Oklahoma, Aztect,New Mexico, He was actively engages in Jay, in the church there for the past seven years, before his illness. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lela May shoup Norton, Jay, three sons, John L. Norton,Bartlesville, Jimmy L. Nortona and Delbert F. Norton, both of Sapulpa, three sisters, Mrs. Jessie M.
