Padgett Mrs. Cleo Margaret Padgett, 96 year old widow of Earl Padgett and longtime resident of Bartlesville died Sunday, December 29, 2002, at Jane Phillips Medical Center. Mrs. Padgett was born on May 4, 1906 in St. Paul, Kansas. The daughter of Joseph Albin and Sarah (Moriarty) Smith. Cleo and her family moved to Bartlesville when she was four. She received her formal education at St. John's Catholic School, graduating valedictorian of the first class to attend St John's from the first through eighth grade. Cleo worked as a telephone operator until she and Earl Padgett were united in marriage, in Nowata, on May 23, 1929. Mr. Padgett worked for the National Refinery before it became the Coop Refinery for 43 years, retiring in 1968. They moved to Peru, Kansas to live in retirement. Mr. Padgett preceded her in death on February 21, 1971, at which time Mrs. Padgett returned to live in Bartlesville. Mrs. Padgett was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church, Westside Community Center Senior Citizens group and the Dewey Senior Citizens Center. She loved to sew, cook, play Bingo, and was known for her quilts. She was known for always visiting or sitting with sick friends that needed assistance. Mrs. Padgett is survived by her three daughters, Mary Kathryn Smith of Nowata, Delores Ann Cramer and husband Jack of Bartlesville, and Lila Lou Hinkle of Bartlesville; a son, Gary Wayne Padgett of MT; a daughter-in- law, Lois Padgett of Sedan, KS; a brother, John C. Smith of Copan; a brother-in-law, Max Harbison of Tulsa; two sisters-in-law, Helen Smith of Caney, KS and Ruth Smith of Bartlesville; 15 grandchildren; 27 great- grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Earl E. Padgett; a daughter, Evelyn Maxine Padgett; 3 brothers, Mike, Ed, and Frank Smith; 2 sisters, Marie Laizure and Mildred Harbison; and 2 grandsons, Earl Wayne Padgett and Gary E. Barton. A rosary will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2, at St. John's Catholic Church and a mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 3, at St. John's Catholic Church with Father Stephen Austin officiating. Casketbeaers will be Gary Smith, Lary Smith, Jim Smith, Joe Cramer, Albert Padgett, and Mark Easter.
