Payton from 4-1-2003 Examiner Enterprise Dale Eddie Payton, 71, died after a brief illness Sunday (March 30) at his home in rural Pawhuska, OK. He was born on October 14, 1931 at Dewey, OK, to Walter Dale and Martha Lou (Kincaide) Payton. Mr. Payton is survived by his wife Mae Payton of the home; four children, Theresa Butcher and her husband Larry of Pawhuska, OK, Dennis Price and his wife Misty of Ponca City, OK, Denise Frazier and her husband John of Katy, Texas, and Dana Burdick and her husband Jason of Pawhuska, OK. Five granddaughters, four grandsons and one great grandson, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, James Henry and Lucy Rene (Somerwell) Payton and Joseph B. and Nancy (McDonald) Kincaide four brothers and two sisters. Mr. Payton was an active member of the Chautauqua Southern Baptist Church in Chautauqua, KS. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a retired from Cameron Iron Works in Porter, TX, as a machinist in 1994 and returned to Oklahoma to make his home on a ranch near Pawhuska, OK. He was of Cherokee Indian descent. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (April 2, 2003) in the Chautauqua Southern Baptist Church in Chautauqua, KS Friends may call on Tuesday (April 1) from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, KS. The family will greet friends and relatives from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Cornerstone Hospice, 3414 S.E. Kentucky, Bartlesville, OK 74006 or the American Cancer Society. David W.
