Schlapper 89, Passed away peacefully at home on July 16, 2003. Born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on October 9, 1913, the eldest child of Daniel M. and Florence C. Ficken Schlapper. Predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Leland and Frederick and one son, Lloyd, Jr. Survived by his wife of 61 years, Marjorie; three children, Paul Schlapper of Ventura, California; Karen (Jon) Young of Tucson, and Judy Schlapper of Coppell, Texas; five grandchildren, Jesse Young, Scott Bagus, Alexis Young, Danielle and Siobhan Schlapper; and one brother-in-law, William Cook of Lake Havasu, Arizona. Lloyd resided in Pittsburg, Kansas, through his school years and served in the U.S. Infantry in the European Campaign during World War II where he was wounded in Germany and received the Purple Heart. He was employed in Kansas City as Furniture Manager at Jones Store and Montgomery Wards and Merchandise Manager of Group Stores for Sears Roebuck. He and Marge have enjoyed Tucson as a residence since 1991. They had traveled widely in the United States and Mexico, traveling these countries many times. Lloyd had considerable talent and lifelong interests in all sorts of music and music performance and in buying and restoring antiques. He enjoyed the pleasure and companionship of his family and many good friends. He was a true gentleman. His sense of humor, loyal dedication, charming and courageous nature were hallmark. He took enormous pride in each of his children and grandchildren and was always the center of their love and attention. The finest of men, he will always be in the forefront of our thoughts and prayers. A Memorial Service will be held on July 19, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sunrise Chapel at 8421 E. Wrightstown Road. Arrangements are being handled by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd.
