Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Greg Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Love at Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Sommers was born in Borger. He graduated from Sooner High School in Bartlesville, Okla. He was awarded the Eagle Scout award with several palms. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Oklahoma. He was active in the Baptist Student Union. Mr. Sommers was employed by J.M. Huber Corp. from 1975 until 1982. He was then employed by Phillips Petroleum Co., in the corporate engineering department at facilities in Bartlesville, Borger, Houston and Sweeney. Mr. Sommers was a member of several professional engineering organizations. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Old Ocean where he taught Sunday School. He married Marjorie Sweet in 1978. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jonathan Sommers of Sweeney; two daughters, Amy and Alissa, both of Sweeney; his mother, Dorothy Sommers of Bartlesville; his grandmother, Helen Sommers of Wichita, Kan.; a brother, Dr. Jack Sommers of Tulsa; and a sister, Susan Parker of San Antonio. The family will be staying at 100 Somerset. They request in lieu of flowers, memorials be to the Dan Sommers Memorial, Baptist Student Ministries - OU, c/o Max Barnett, 435 W.
