All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.html ========================================================================== Surnames: Thornton, Jones, Vandruff, Carter, Garrett From undated and unidentified newspaper Clipping provided by Ermalee Vandruff Sanders Mildred Jones Thornton (1916-1992) Mrs. Mildred LaVerne Thornton, age 76 of Ramona, died Sat., Sept. 26, 1992 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa. Mrs. Thornton was born July 25, 1916 at Hominy, the daughter of James C. and Bessie (Vandruff) Jones. She was raised and received her education in and around Hominy. In April of 1946, she was united in marriage to Chester James Thornton in the First Christian Church of Hominy. They made their home in Straham, until moving back to Hominy. They have resided in Ramona for the past twenty years. Mrs. Thornton had been President of the Avant PTA; had been a 4-H Leader at both Hominy and Avant and had been a Leader of "Ciros" a Sunday nite Youth Group for the First Christian Church while living in Hominy. Mrs. Thornton is survived by her husband, Chester of Ramona; one daughter, Mrs. E. W. (Brenda) Carter of Hominy and three grandchildren, James Garrett and Melinda Carter of Hominy and Christie Garrett of Tulsa. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tues., Sept. 29 in the Chapel of the Powell Funeral Home with Rev. David W. DeVore officiating. Interment will be in the Albert J.
