White Ruth Ann White, 93, of Bartlesville, died at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday at the Silver Lake Care Center. Services will be at a later date. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home. A memorial scholarship fund for Bartlesville graduate has been established and memorials may be made to Ruth A. White Memorial Fund, ATTN: Patti Beavers, Education Service Center, P.O. Box 1357, Bartlesville, OK 74005. Survivors include her three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard H. Jr. and Letitia of Ft. Washington, Md., Rev. Miles H. and Caroline of Rolla, Mo., Robert P. and Deborah of Oklahoma City; a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Ann and James M. George of Belfair, Wash.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. ========= from 2-13-2003 Examiner Enterprise Ruth White Ruth Harrison White, a Bartlesville resident for 50 years, died on New Year's eve 2002 after a long illness. A memorial service for Mrs. White will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 15 in the chapel at the Bartlesville First Methodist Church, where she and her late husband Henry were members. Ruth and Henry White were teachers in the Bartlesville public school system. Ruth taught English and literature at Central Junior High School and Sooner High School from 1953 until her retirement in 1972. After their retirement, Ruth and Henry White ran a thriving antique business out of Henry's garage on Brookside Parkway, and traveled by automobile to all corners of the United States and Canada. Ruth Harrison was born June 24, 1909, in Happy, Texas, where she spent her childhood. She graduated from high school in Stratford, Texas when she was 16 years old, and graduated from Panhandle A&M College in 1928 with a degree in education and a teaching certificate. She accepted a job teaching in Beaver, Oklahoma, while Henry completed his degree at Panhandle A&M. They eloped to Liberal, Kansas, where they were married on Thanksgiving Day, 1929. After Henry's graduation, they both took teaching jobs in Cooperton in Kiowa County, Oklahoma, They lived briefly in Gotebo and Hobart, Oklahoma, where Henry taught, before moving to Mangum in 1941 While they lived in Mangum, Ruth returned to teaching at a rural school at Brinkman in Greer County. She taught English, literature, drama and choral music. In a school so small the 1950 graduating class consisted of four students, she produced Christmas programs that were known countywide. Mrs. White is survived by three sons, Richard of Fort Washington, Maryland; Miles of Rolla, Missouri; Robert of Oklahoma City; and a daugfhter, Elizabeth Ann George of Belfair, Washington; eight grandchildren, Ann Calvert Brown of Vienna, Virginia; Keith White of San Antonio; Gayle White Podgurski of New Orleans; Courtney Seitz of Bremerton, Washington: Katherine Zaengle of Chappaqua, New York; Robin White of Edmond; Kate White of Norman; and Christopher Miles White, a student at Oklahoma State University; and ten great grandchildren, Suzanne and Daniel Brown; Kyle Henry White; Kacie Lynn and Codie Marie Podgurski; Jacob, Katie and Isaac Seitz; and Taylor Jane and Matthew Hudson Zaengle. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Washington County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/washington/washington.html
