Interment was under the direction of McClure Funeral Home of Cordell and followed in Paige Cemetery. He was born January 19, 1941 at Elk City, Oklahoma to Hayden and Rachel Baker (Mobley) Austin. John passed away near New Castle, Indiana on February 10, 2003 as the result of a traffic accident. John was a 1959 graduate of Burns Flat High School where he participated in sports. He moved to Houston where he worked as a mechanic. He moved back to Southwest Oklahoma and worked for Halliburton. He had resided in the Dallas area for the past 10 years and had been employed by J.B. Hunt as a truck driver for the past 7 years. He was a member of the South Main Baptist Church in Houston. John was a veteran, having served four years in the U.S. Air Force. Survivors include his three children: Nelson Austin and wife, Ronna of Moore, James Marlow and wife, Dusty of Weatherford, Texas, Marisa Austin of Dallas, Texas; one brother, Hayden Austin, Jr. and wife, Jane of Canute; one sister, Roberta Diggs and husband, Billy of Burns Flat; two step brothers, Wayne Morgan of Geary and Bobby Morgan of Nashville, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Eric Johnson, Ryan Fullerton, Laycee Johnson, Jessica Austin and Jamie Austin; one great grandson, Hayden Austin; and other relatives and friends.
