Obit for Berniece Morris

Funeral services for Berniece Morris, 76, Burlington, Kansas, were held on
January 18, 2003 at the United Methodist Church in Burlington, Kansas, with
burial in Graceland Cemetery in Burlington, Kansas under the direction of 
Jones Funeral Home, Burlington, Kansas.

Berniece was born April 19, 1926 in Colony, Oklahoma to William Nelson and
Lillie Mae Motley Houk. She passed away on January 15, 2003 at her home in
Burlington, Kansas.

She was raised in the Colony, Oklahoma area and graduated from high school at
Cowden, Oklahoma. On February 20, 1945, she was married to B.A. Morris at San
Bernardino, California, where he was stationed in the Navy.

Following his discharge they returned to Oklahoma for a short time before
moving to Kansas in 1947. They lived in the Chanute area for many years.

Berniece attended Neosho County Junior College for 2 years. She served as
executive for the Chanute Chapter of the Red Cross for several years. She and
her husband moved to Burlington in 1999.

At Chanute, she was a longtime member of Otterbein United Methodist Church
where she was an active in many areas. She transferred her membership to the
Burlington United Methodist Church in 2001. When her children were young, she
served as a youth group leader at the church and was also a Cub Scout leader.

Survivors include her husband, B.A. Morris, Burlington, Kansas; two sons, Gene
Morris, Nacagdoches, Texas, Charles Morris, Burlington, Kansas; one daughter,
Sheila Holloway, Redding, Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren, 3 great
grandchildren; 3 sisters, Lucille Duncan, Chula Vista, California, Letha Wells,
Lookeba, Oklahoma, and Pauline Phillips, Long Beach, California.

She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Deral Morris and several brothers
and sisters.
