All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== :: Cooke, Virgil Dennis VIRGIL DENNIS COOKE June 6, 1920 July 14, 2006 Virgil "Cookie" Cooke passed away on Friday, July 14, 2006. He is preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Edith; his brother, J.C.; his sister, Jewell; and his niece, Theresa Bartlett. Born in Oklahoma, he graduated from high school in Bessie. He and his family moved to Fresno in 1939. Shortly after moving to Fresno, he joined the U.S. Armed Forces in 1942 to serve in Europe in World War Il. He participated in two major campaigns as a light weapons Platoon Sergeant and Platoon Leader. He also participated in the liberation of Forbachs, France. He was a career salesman in sporting goods and agricultural supplies. He was known for his sense of humor, kindness and generosity. Those who knew him called him "Cookie". He will me missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by Gloria Faye Cooke, his loving wife of 39 years. He is also survived by his nephews, Chris Cooke, Joe Bartlett, Mike Bartlett, Steven Draper and Gary Draper; his nieces, Valerie Tillery, Lucille Epperson, Pat Buffalo, Toni Bartlett, Mary Ann Bartlett and Susan Draper. He also has 17 grandnieces and grandnephews.
