Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday in Couts Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial: Greenwood Community Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel. Maxene was born May 8, 1924, in Retrop, Okla., and was a longtime resident of the Greenwood Community in Weatherford. She owned a Parker County peach orchard, ran the Couts kitchen for years, cooked for the Retired Teachers Association for 30 years, and was a member of Couts Memorial United Methodist Church, the Greenwood Home Demonstration Club and the Melon Busters Camping Group. Survivors: Husband, Fred Cowles of Weatherford; sons, Darrell Cowles and wife, Belinda, of Fort Worth, Brent Cowles and wife, Violet, of Bay St. Louis, Miss., Bruce Cowles and wife, Laura, of Fort Worth; brother, Weldon Corbin and wife, Vallene, of Hurst; and grandchildren, Brian Cowles, Shelley Hui, Lisa Warren, Carie Williams, Michelle Cowles, Joseph Shannon, Brittney Fricke and Charles Fricke.
