All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------ Obit for Esther Ruth Mathis Funeral services for Esther Ruth Mathis were held January 18, 2003 at the First Baptist Church, Cordell, Oklahoma. Burial was at the Resthaven Memorial Cemetery, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Sevices were officiated by Reverend R.B. Mathis, under the direction of Jack Loftiss Funeral Home, Cordell, Oklahoma. Esther was born October 26, 1910 in Caddo County, near Alfalfa, Oklahoma to Richard and Flora Beall. She passed away on January 16, 2003 at the Cordell Christian Home at the age of 92 years. Her early years were spent in Oklahoma City. When Esther was 15 years of age, she moved with her parents to Florida. It was there that she met and married Lawrence Mathis on May 6, 1928. To this union two sons were born. Lawrence entered the ministry in 1935, and they moved to Bethany, Oklahoma where Lawrence was enrolled in Bethany Nazarene College. In 1939 they moved to Jacksonville, Florida for their first pastorate. They pastored churches in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Florida. Their last pastorage was in Pahokee, Florida. They retired in 1977 and moved to Boise City, Oklahoma to be near their son and family. Lawrence and Esther moved to Cordell in 1987. She is survived by one son, R.B. and his wife, Pat of Cordell; two grandsons, Chris and his wife, Kristin of Carrolton, Texas, and Mike and his wife, Tiphanie of Edmond, Oklahoma; one great grandson, Andrew Mathis; one great granddaughter, Rebecca Mathis, both of Carrolton, Texas; two nieces, Patty Lou Miller of Oklahoma City, and Bobbie Lookabaugh and her husband, Ed of Midland, Texas; and other relatives and many friends. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lawrence in 1992, one son Lawrence Edward who gave his life while serving in the United States Marines defending our country, one sister, Beulah Cox, and one brother, Bob Beall.
