Graveside services were held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. at the Corn Cemetery with memorial services following at 9:45 a.m. at the Corn Heritage Village Chapel officiated by Paster Ken Gardner. Services were under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton. Gerald Roland Warkentin was born in Cordell, OK on July 30, 1938 to H. Irwin Warkentin and Edna (Janzen) Warkentin and passed away on July 3, 2002. Gerald was a lifelong member of the Corn Mennonite Bretheren Church, having accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior during his years at the Corn Bible Academy. He spent many years working for local area farms and on road construction crews in Oklahoma, Arkansas until finally the cumulative effects of mild cerebal palsy kept him from working. In his later years he was in several nursing homes in the area. Gerald was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John and Kathryn Peters Janzen; his paternal grandparents, H.J. and Anna Leppke Warkentin; his mother Edna and two brothers, Floyd Wayne and Wendell. He is survived by his father, H. Irwin Warkentin, sisters Frances Gathright and husband Jack of Oklahoma City; Rowena Rhodes and husband Carl of Corn; brothers Richard Warkentin of Concord, CA, and Michael Warkentin and wife Georgia of Norman, niece Brianna Auge and husband Ethan of Weatherford, Margaret Gathright of Oklahoma City and nephew Jeffery Gathright and wife Michelle of Midwest City and a host of surviving special aunts and uncles and their spouses, cousins and friends.
