All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Canute Cemetery--Canute OK Surnames: Gunter, Young Originally posted at: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.oklahoma.counties.rogermills/8609/mb.ashx Funeral services for Oscar "Pod" Gunter of Hammon, who died suddenly Sunday night at his home in Hammon were conducted from the Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Elk City Wednesday, April 5, 1972 at 2:00 P.M. Burial was in the Canute Cemetery with graveside rites by the Hammon and Foss Masonic Lodge. Mr. Gunter was born July 2, 1892, at Jacksboro, Texas. He was 79. He came to Oklahoma with his parents in 1898 to Foss, Oklahoma, and lived there and in the Canute area until 1944 when he moved to Hammon, where he was a mail carrier until he retired. He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge at Foss and received his 50 year pin in 1971. He was married to Gladys Young December 22, 1914 at Oklahoma City and she survives him. Other survivors include 4 sons, O.F. Gunter of Canute, Edward K. Gunter of Clintoin, A.R. Gunter, of Mecca, California and Jack Gunter, of Alburquerqe, New Mexico. Two sisters, two brothers, also 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
