He was born May 19, 1929 to Lewis and Ester Keener in Atkins, Arkansas. In 1960 Joe married Mary Harris. Joe served as a school teacher for five years and a minister for over 50 years, preaching in Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma. His ministry included radio and a television program. Joe loved gardening and watching things grow. He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Thomas Wayne Keener, Joseph Lee Keener and Edward Lewis Keener; daughter Mary Ann Williams; grandchildren, Angie, Andrew and Christi; brothers, Elbert and Clarence and sister, Edna Teeter. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irma Lee; both parents; and brother Iverson Keener. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the India Fund c/o Rock Hill Church of Christ P.O. Box 2301 Frisco, TX 75034. Memorial services were held at the Northwest Church of Christ in Lawton on Saturday, July 27 at 10:00 a.m. Services were directed by Green Hill Funeral Home, Sapulpa, OK.
